Batavia Air
While many international airlines have cut back operations over the past decade, one Indonesian airline has quickly grown to be one of the leading airlines in Southeast Asia. Batavia Air, which is headquartered out of Jakarta, Indonesia, has grown considerably since they were first established in 2002. Since being founded, the airline has gained a strong reputation for customer service as well as safety, which is why they have been listed in Category 1 for safely and airline quality by the Indonesian Civil Aviation Authority.
Batavia Air, which was initially referred to as Metro Batavia, has been in operations since January 2002. The airline had humble beginnings as they initially leased a few different aircrafts from Sempati Air, but the airline has expanded their fleet considerably. The airline, which operates largely out of their main hub, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, now has 35 different planes in their fleet. These include 26 Boeing 737s, which are used for their domestic flights and carry between 133 and 168 passengers, as well as 9 Airbus A320s, which are largely used for their international trips and carry between 180 and 320 passengers.
While Batavia Air initially was used simply for travel between Jakarta and other cities in the country, they have expanded and now operate gates out of 48 different domestic and international destinations. Batavia Air now serves international customers in China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and East Timor, as well as being a staple in every major airport located across Indonesia.
While the airline presently only operates in Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia, they appear set to expand to more distant international destinations. The airline was recently given clearance to fly into airspace over Europe, which should drastically increase the amount of passengers that they could serve in any given year going forward.
